How to Organize Your Appointments And Always Be On Time

Do you have trouble keeping up with all of your appointments? If so, you are like a large percentage of people. Most of those people will not admit the problem, but we all probably suffer from some level of forgetfulness with appointments. Fortunately, we do have a number of things we can do to prevent this from being an issue. Here are some tips on how to get organized and never be late again:

Go modern

You know they now have a robot that will follow you around and remind you of where you are supposed to be. (Actually this might be true, but I kid) Today’s technology allows us to digitize most everything and our schedules are tops on the list. Get yourself a good online calender, digital schedule keeper or simply use the apps available on your cell phone. There are a ton of options out there so you should take advantage of them!

Have a nightly routine

Every evening or morning, you should have a specific time to load the next day’s information into your device. Even the best technology is only as good as we allow it to be. You have to put the info in to get reminded about it. Every evening before you go to bed, think about the next day and put your reminders in.

Get in the habit of adding information right away

When you find out you have a new appointment, go ahead and put it in the device you are using. If you change your habits and do this on a regular basis, you will never forget an important date or reminder.

Plan ahead to be early

If you always allow yourself a thirty minute window you will hardly ever be late. Plan your driving time, arrival time and various detours before you ever get in the car. Emergencies will happen but you will be on time 99% of the time. The key is to think ahead and always to allow yourself some extra time.

Take inventory of your personal time

There are a number of people that simply are not very good at estimating how long things will take. These people are usually late for everything and rarely can figure out why. Take an inventory log of various tasks you do and estimate beforehand how long you think the will take. Then compare the actual time to your estimations. If you are consistently off, that could easily explain why you are late all the time. Make an adjustment and add fifteen minutes to whatever you think it will take you when you plan your day. (as an estimate – you may need longer)

Loosen up your schedule

If you have tried everything else and you simply are not able to make your meetings, it could be because you are scheduling beyond your abilities or time. Nobody can do it all. Spread out your schedule and put some time between meetings. This will allow you to be on time more often and to get on a realistic schedule. Trying to spread yourself too thin will only make you sick anyway in the long run.
