How to Organize Your Laundry Room

A laundry room is prone to getting messy. After all, we throw our dirty clothes in there and we are frequently back and forth moving clean and dirty clothes in and out. Check out these tips for getting your laundry room organized and in order.

Shelves

One of the biggest problems in laundry rooms is that things end up on the floor. Whether it’s dirty clothes, laundry baskets, detergent jugs, dryer lint, or something else — it ends up on the floor. This creates a cluttered mess. Get stuff up off of the floor by adding shelves to your laundry room.

A free standing utility shelf can hold extra laundry baskets that are ready for use or you can stick full baskets on the shelves. If you have multiple family members doing their laundry and leaving their baskets sitting in the laundry room, stick the full baskets on the shelf to keep them up and out of the way until they are retrieved.

Cabinets

Install a wall cabinet in a handy position for overhead storage. This is the perfect solution to all of those jugs of laundry detergent, fabric softener, and other laundry accessories. This cabinet is also a perfect spot to store all of your other cleaning supplies. It’s up and out of the way!

Hampers

Choose hampers that can handle your family’s dirty laundry. A roll around hamper cart is a great choice for convenience and ease of use. Choose a roll around cart with multiple hampers for separating colors or for separating the laundry of several family members.

Wastebaskets

A sizable wastebasket is a must for your laundry room. You will need it for tossing out the dryer lint, used dryer sheets, and other trash items.

You may wish to include a wastebasket for recyclables. Laundry jugs are generally made from recyclable plastic and laundry detergent boxes are made from cardboard that can be recycled. Toss the empties into a wastebasket designated for this purpose then once a week or once a month load up everything and drop it off at the local recycling center.

Hang Up Cleaning Tools

Your laundry room is a good place to keep your broom and mop as well as other cleaning tools. Don’t settle for just leaving your broom in a corner, hang it up. Purchase a broom rack from a local home improvement store or install wall hooks to hold your broom and mop up off the floor.

Your laundry room may be all about dirty business and cleaning up, but it doesn’t have to be a mess itself. Use a few of these tricks to get everything organized and in order so your laundry room is ready to go no matter how much or how little laundry you actually have waiting on you.
