Quick Keto Chili Recipe Made in the Pressure Cooker

I love this Quick Keto Chili Recipe that’s made in the pressure cooker!!  I have an Instant Pot 6 quart and I use it so much.  I’ve had it for a long time and I swear it’s one of my favorite kitchen appliances. This baby even travels with me when we spend time out at the lake in our 5th wheel camper.  I have the Instant Pot 6 quart 7 in 1 Duo model.  It’s perfect for our family of four.  Do you remember that time I made Lobster Tails in the Pressure Cooker?!

Back before I started my own Ketogenic Diet journey (gosh, I hate that word diet because it’s really a full-on lifestyle for me) I used to make the most delicious Wendy’s Copycat Chili recipe.  I would serve that chili with a side of sweet cornbread or I would serve it in a big bread bowl.  I’m so happy to have learned the keto way of life.  Because even though I used to love that recipe, I am very happy with my Quick Keto Chili recipe and I am happy to serve it up with my favorite Keto Biscuits recipe too!  I’m not missing a thing!  Keto for life, baby!

UPDATE:  We found the BEST Keto Cornbread recipe to pair with this Keto chili!  Try it!  You will love it.  It’s not made with cornbread but it doesn’t have any corn it in!  Love that!

Why Add Unsweetened Cocoa Powder to a Keto Chili Recipe?

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about the unsweetened cocoa powder ingredient I added in my Keto chili recipe and I’m a bit surprised.  I honestly thought everybody add this ingredient in their chili.  This is a technique that I learned a long, long time ago from my grandma.  She always added unsweetened chocolate to some dishes that are savory because it intensifies and enhances the flavors of the other spices in such a delightful way.  I won’t ever make this Keto chili recipe without it.  It’s such a big difference and I swear, once you try it, you won’t ever go back.  Promise!

Keto Starter Guide Message from the Creator of the Course

If you are new to the Keto way of life and need a bit more help getting started and understanding exactly how it works, I have news for you! This way of life is not really easy to start off in the beginning.
You can easily get very overwhelmed by the information and, believe it or not, there is so much misinformation out there that you will leave yourself asking what’s real and what’s not. It can be frustrating and overwhelming at the same time.
I started my journey in January of 2017 way before anyone even knew what Keto was!! I’ve learned every pitfall and made all the mistakes! I only wished I had someone who could have explained it to me to avoid all of those feelings of failure and frustration. Luckily, it didn’t make me quit. It almost did. I’m so glad I stuck with it because I got away from the way carbs and sugar had a hold of me. I control it instead of it controlling me like it used to.

If you are starting out, you will find the Keto Starter guide extremely helpful and very valuable! Check it out here:

This was so good!!!! I’m a very picky eater and I loved it!! So did my kids and my husband. I don’t like tomatoes, so I used tomato sauce. Other than that, I followed the recipe exactly! It was delicious!! Thank you for sharing!!

  2. This chili is simply amazing! I made it per the recipe and then added in 1/2 cup of chopped green bell pepper before cooking. WOW, it’s so good!! I am SO excited to to have chili again and my kids love it too! Thank you for the delicious Keto recipe.

I’ve been making this on and off the whole year absolutely love it i really didn’t think it would have much flavor only cooking 10 minutes but wow like i cooked it all day and dont even miss the beans❤

I love this recipe. I’ve made it a few times and the leftovers get better and better for the next couple of days. I pretty much only modify one thing, and that’s to add 3 tsp of liquid smoke to the browned meat just before adding the seasonings. It gives it that extra, robust flavor I crave with chili.

  5. I love this recipe! I did add a can of tomato sauce because I like the tomato taste but this is a good one!

I made this in my slow cooker and it was sooooo yummy!! For those asking, I browned the meat first, but I forgot the onion, so I added meat and spices, a teeeeny but of liquid smoke as it’s a staple in all of my chili’s, and cooked it on low for 5 hours, then remembered the onion! Whoops! So I chopped it real quick and added it and turned it on high for 90 minutes, and it eliminated the need for the xanthum gum, the onions absorbed a lot of the liquid and it was PERFECTION. I’m making it again today and I’ll be doing it exactly the way I did last time, if it ain’t broke right? Thanks for this yummy recipe!! ❤️ And the cocoa powder is AMAZING! My grandma was slacking… lol

This was so good! I’m on day 3 of Keto, but spent some good time on paleo prior. Out of all the chili recipes I’ve made as of late, this was my favorite chili recipe.

However, I did one little thing to it as I was excited about getting this new ingredient today to have around – liquid smoke. I added 1 tsp of Wright’s Liquid Hickory Smoke to the beef just after mixing in the seasonings. It’s not overpowering and is simply the perfect amount of smoke to the entire batch of chili. Thank you very much for posting this.

  8. This is so good. I like my chili with beans and I have tried other recipes without them but haven’t liked them. This one is loaded with flavor and just the right amount of heat. I did miss the beans a tiny bit but the flavor made up for it. It’s super easy and fast to make. The portions are plentiful. I couldn’t eat my whole portion. Thank you for a great chili that both me and my husband loves!

This was so good! But very much on the spicy side. Luckily I love spicy food, but next time I’ll go with 1 Tbsp chili powder. This time I had to throw a lot of sour cream in.

Loved this Chili recipe but, the nutritional information is off. 1 cup = 260 calories, 6.8 g is fat, 8.9 g net carbs, 37.1 g protein.

  11. Many people have ingredient questions I do not. It was great my only question is “Am I condemned because I feed my family an entire Keto lunch with this AMAZING chili recipe and added the cauliflower rice, beans on side no one touched and NO ONE made a sound. ALL GONE to include my 2yr old grandson. I will make again Salt is not an option but you can always add and no one did. Thank you for such a recipe I just hope there’s some for lunch tomorrow. Thank you.

Made this tonight and the whole family liked it. It’s not spicy as written, but it would be easy to spice up for people who like more heat. My teenagers do not like very spicy food so this was a hit. Making it in the Instant Pot was so quick and easy. The Instant Pot also made it easy to keep warm while I made a keto cornbread to accompany it. I never use a recipe for chili and so it always comes out differently. I’ll definitely make this again as written. I used a 1/2 tsp of xanthan gum and it was just right for the thickness we like. Used shredded cheese, chopped onion, and sour cream to top it and it was incredibly filling. Thanks for the recipe:)

  13. Actually have it simmering on the stove top as I do not have an insta pot yet. It smells amazing! and good job on your keto journey! You look great!

made this last week stove, just let it cook for about 45 minutes, my hubby who is very particular LOVED it! I used beef stew chunks and cut them down to bite-sized pieces, and decreased the cumin to 1 tsp as it messes with his stomach, but this is going in my favorite go to recipes! I will be making this again real soon!

Amazing keto chili. Made mine on the stove and simmered 2 hrs. I used hot Italian sausage, a fresh chopped jalapeño and a large can of fire roasted diced tomatoes. Really nice flavor. The spice ratio is spot on. The nutritional info is not correct for one serving if the recipe has 8 servings. I recalculated on my own app.

Made this tonight and loved it. My non-low carb non-keto husband really loved it. Made my favorite keto biscuits and he added kidney beans to his bowl.

Fantastic recipe. I got the idea from another recipe to add bite sized cauliflower as a bean-replacer. So, I followed your recipe exactly but added cauliflower. Delicious!!
Oh…andI made mine stovetop instead of crockpot. Browned meat and onions first, then dumped in the rest. Simmered for about 30 to 45 mins.
    Served with mozzarella breadsticks.

  18. I love that your grandma told you about unsweetened cocoa in chili. Mine did the same! Now every time I make chili, I think of her!

    I’ll be making this tonight!

    1. I’m wondering the same thing! Since I couldn’t find a reply I decided to just wing it with 4 hours on high in crock pot since I’m short on time.

I browned the meat with the onions and then added all the other ingredients and simmered for about 15 min and it was delish!

Yes, I actually have an instant pot, but cook mine on the stove top, on low heat, for about an hour and a half. Tastes much better.

I always add cocoa too. Try adding a scoop of canned pumpkin for thickness and taste.

    What an awesome recipe!
I despise cooking, but the pictures looked sooo tempting. I borrowed an instant pot and tried it! It was fantastic!! Fire roasted tomatoes… Who knew?!

  21. I see a can of Hatch whole green chilis in the picture of your ingredients (which I always check out) but it is not listed with the ingredients. Do I add it? I am making this for dinner tonight.

  22. Made this last night for my family. Flavour was really good and this will be another recipe in my rotation. I live in BC Canada and can’t find Rotel tomatoes here. I know you say to add a jalapeño but do I also add another can of tomatoes in place of the Rotel? I did do this but it was a bit soupy even with the xantham gum. Would appreciate your advice on this. Thank you and I love your recipes!

This looks amazing!!! Now I’m starving for chili!!!!!!!! I’m pretty good at figuring out what a recipe will taste like with the ingredients listed, and this looks like a winner. I’ll be making this soon.
