How to Organize and Maximize Your Time

If you’re very busy, it may seem like there just aren’t enough hour in the day to get everything done. The truth is, though, that everyone has 24 hours each, where it counts is how you choose to use those hours. If you organize your time to make the best of it, you won’t feel as rushed and you will feel more satisfied with the things you accomplish. Check out these tips to help you organize and make the best use of your time.

Use a Planner

A planner is one of the best ways to help keep yourself on track and using your time wisely. Write everything down so you don’t forget important appointments and events.

Create a Regular Schedule

Get yourself into a regular routine with your schedule. Plan to do some of the same activities on the same day each week so your mind and body can get into a routine.

Use Regular Bedtime and Wake Up Times

Your mind and body will function best with plenty of rest. If you can get yourself onto a regular routine and schedule of going to bed and waking up at the same times every day, you will be able to maximize your energy. One of the things that makes you tired and out of sorts is to be off routine or too tired.

Allow Yourself Some Down Time

It’s okay to have down time in amongst your busy schedule. Realistically, packing every moment full of activities and appointments doesn’t make you more productive — it only makes you more tired. Plan a day or a block of time each week in which you don’t schedule anything. Plan to use this time to read a book, work on a hobby, or do another non-busy activity. You won’t feel as stressed when you know you have some down time coming up on a regular basis.

Don’t Over Schedule

Don’t pack your schedule full of so many activities that you are running yourself ragged. You will maximize your time best when you have just a few activities or tasks to accomplish.

Be Realistic About What You Can Do

It’s easy to get so busy that you think you can do it all. That’s certainly not realistic — you can’t do everything. You can’t be at a meeting on one end of town at 4:00 then be across town for another activity at 5:00 if the meeting will last 45 minutes and it takes 30 minutes to get across town. Make realistic plans that you know you can actually meet or you will be setting yourself up for failure and frustration.

If you approach your time realistically and don’t try to over schedule yourself, you may be surprised at how much you can accomplish. Take a step back and slow down, then create a routine and schedule that you can make work.
