How to Organize Your Pet Supplies

Your furry friends require a few supplies such as food, leashes, toys, medicines, clippers, collars, and more. Organizing those items will help you keep track of them, make use of them, and reduce clutter in your home. Here are a few ideas for getting those pet supplies organized.

Turn a Book Shelf Into a Pet Supply Center

A wooden book shelf can become your pet supply center. Paint it a bright color then decorate it with pet-related decals and stencils. Letter your pet’s name on the shelf.

Use cute baskets or boxes that fit perfectly on the shelves to store smaller items such as toys, brushes, collars, etc.
Find a couple of decorative jars to keep treats in.
Use a larger jar or seal-able container to put medicines, shampoos, flea treatments and the like in. Make sure all medicines and chemicals are stored up high enough to not pose a safety risk for children and your pets and double check the lids on containers these items are stored in.
Transfer pet food into a decorative plastic, glass, or metal container and place on the bottom shelf (you may have to rearrange shelves). Attach coat hooks on the sides of the shelf to hold leashes.

Hang Leashes and Harnesses Near Your Back Door

Buy a peg rack or use individual coat hooks to hang up your leashes and harnesses in a handy location near your back door. Make sure they are in a good spot so you can grab them as you get ready to go out with your dog. Keep this rack separate from any coat or hat racks you use so you can reach your leashes easily.

Use Shoe Boxes

If you have a utility shelf available in a utility room, mudroom or laundry room, use plastic shoe boxes or with lids or slightly larger plastic storage boxes to keep your pet supplies organized. Use labels or permanent markers to mark each box and separate your pet supplies. You can separate your supplies into categories such as: Toys, treats, leashes, books, medicines, blankets, bath accessories, and more.

Outside Pets

If you have outside pets, you will probably want to keep some of your pet supplies outside within easy reach. Invest in a galvanized trash can with a lid for that purpose. This can be painted or decorated with paint and it will keep out mice and the elements. Store items like treats and food in smaller, sealed containers then place inside the can. You can keep leashes, toys, collars, and other items in the can as well for easy access.

Use one or more of these ideas to get your pet supplies in order and keep them accessible for use. When you have your supplies in one place and somewhat organized, you will be able to find what you need without spending time searching.
