5 Tips to Organize Your Jewelry
There is nothing quite so personal and important to people as their jewelry. Because the items are often given as a token of love, many of the pieces are priceless if only to the person that receives them. When you organize your jewelry, you want to consider many different factors. You want to make sure they are secure, separated and easy to find. Here are five tips to help you ensure that your jewelry lasts a lifetime:
Sort your jewelry carefully
When you go to organize your jewelry, the very first thing you need to do is separate the expensive stuff from the costume type jewelry. If you don’t take this important step, you can make a horrible mistake rather easily. Mixing up the expensive and the cheap will almost certainly lead to heartbreak eventually. Keep them in totally separate areas and you will never have this type of problem.
Use plenty of hooks and loops to hang jewelry
There are countless things you can use to hang jewelry if you have space to put it. You can even hang some peg board and use it to hang your necklaces and bracelets. This works quite well for costume jewelry but is not advised for more expensive pieces.
Keep valuables stored away
If you have extremely valuable pieces that are family heirlooms of a sort, you should put those in a safe deposit box or a vault in your home. These items are irreplaceable in most cases and should only be worn on rare occasions. That said, be sure to insure and care for them as you would any other valuable.
Get drawer inserts
One of the best ways to sort and organize your jewelry is to place inserts into drawers. You can buy inserts that give you many different spots to put different types of jewelry. This is extremely helpful if you have a large amount of jewelry and limited hanging space. Invest in a nice set of drawer inserts and your jewelry will be easy to find and put away.
Invest in a foldaway jewelry organizer
These are wonderful for keeping your less expensive jewelry organized and can be found pretty much anywhere that jewelry is sold. There are countless jewelry organizers out there, but the best kinds are self contained and can be put pretty much anywhere. They fold into themselves and have individual sealed areas to store your precious items. These are also great for traveling if you like to bring along your jewelry.
Storing and organizing jewelry is not complicated but it can be if you are not careful. Trying to throw a bunch of different types in a drawer will get you tangled and damaged items that are nearly impossible to fix. Take the time to put them away properly and give each thing a specific spot.
