7 Tips for Organizing Your Christmas Collectibles

Christmas collectibles are certainly pretty when you bring them out for the holiday. When it’s time to put them away, though, they can be a pain if you don’t keep them properly organized. Check out these tips to help you get your Christmas collectibles in order.

Sort by Type or By Arrangement

You may have a variety of Christmas collectibles — from plates to figurines to collectible ornaments. When you organize your items, sort them according to type or by arrangement. Storing the various types together can make it easier to pull out the pieces you want year after year while storing according to arrangement creates a ready-made display for you.

Keep the Original Boxes

When it comes to collectibles, some of the value lies in keeping the item in pristine condition and having the original box that it came in. Keep the boxes for each collectible and when you put them away, put them back into the original box.

Wrap Up Fragile Items

If you have fragile items that are breakable, wrap them up before storing them away. Use bubble wrap, newspapers, or even holiday towels that can be used at Christmastime to wrap up those fragile collectibles.

Use Sturdy Boxes for Storage

When you put your collectibles away, be sure the boxes you use for storage are sturdy. The last thing you want is to pick up the box containing your precious ornaments and have it fall apart. If possible, choose a durable plastic storage box as opposed to a cardboard box. Cardboard can draw rodents and insects which can lead to damage for your collectibles.

Label Each Box

Be sure to mark your boxes accurately. You don’t want to be left guessing about what is in each box and you don’t want to be digging through a number of boxes to find a specific item.

Use Photos for Labels

As you pack up your collectibles, take a photo of each item. Use a print of each item to create a photo label for the outside of each box.

Take Photos of Arrangements

Before you pack up your collectibles, take a photo of them on display in your home. Make a print of the photo then store it with the items. This will jog your memory about how you arranged them the next year when you pull out your collectibles and want to put them out for everyone to see.

You definitely want to keep your Christmas collectibles in order and in good condition. Organizing them and storing them safely will ensure their longevity for years to come. Taking good care of those holiday collectibles will allow you to pass your special items down to your children and beyond.
