How to Organize Your Yard Supplies

When you need to get your yard work done, knowing where everything is will save you time and frustration. Getting all of your yard supplies organized and in order will help you spend more time getting your yard taken care of instead of searching for the things you need. Check out these simple tips to help you get organized.

Use a Shoe Hanger

Those handy shoe hangers with multiple pockets are great for more than just holding your shoes. Hang one in your utility room, garage, or out building to keep smaller yard supplies handy. Hang up work gloves, gardening gloves, hand pruners, insect killer and repellent, lighter fluid, lawn and leaf bags, grill supplies, lighters or matches, and other small tools and supplies.

Hang Up Tools

Yard tools like rakes, shovels, and such can be hung up on special racks or by nailing large nails into the side of your garage or shed. Space two nails far enough apart to allow you to slide the rake with head up in between the nails for hanging. Smaller tools with handles can hang on smaller nails.

Organize Yard Lights

If you have yard lights (such as tiki torches citronella candles or string lights) that you only bring out for special occasions, use a tall garbage can to keep those organized. Tiki torches can stand up in the garbage can and you can keep bottles of citronella oil for the torches in the can too. Use a large stick to wrap string lights around to keep them from getting tangled. Use a coffee can to store smaller citronella candles in. The coffee can will fit right down in the garbage can. If you want to get a little more industrious, fit the garbage can lid into place then cut holes in the lid for your torches. The lid will protect the other contents of the can.

Keep Mowing Supplies in Order

Use a large, plastic storage box for mowing supplies. Keep string for your weed trimmer, extra blades for your lawn mower, oil and other supplies in the storage box. You may also want to include ear plugs, insect repellent, work gloves, and anything else you may need when you mow.

Organize Decorative Items

You may have assorted yard decorations that you rotate in your yard. You will want to keep them put up and in order so you can find them when you need them. Depending upon the number of decorative items and the sizes of them, you can organize them in a couple of ways. Hang up any items that you can in your shed or garage. You can also make use of another large, lidded garbage can to store yard decorations in. If you prefer to sort yard decorations by season, use a garbage can for each season or holiday. Be sure to mark each can so you know what the contents are.

Use a few or all of these tips to get your yard supplies in order so you can find them easily. Keep them organized and your days of yard work will go smoother so you will have more time to enjoy your yard with you loved ones.
