DIY Monster “Go Away” Spray

Do you have a child that is scared to sleep in their own room for fear of monsters?  We all seem to have overactive imaginations when we are children.  These fears are real for kids.  I decided to play off of my daughters imagination by creating a home made DIY Monster “Go Away” spray so she can feel protected.

I can’t tell you how many times I had to lay down with my daughter till she feel asleep.  Countless times I’ve checked under her bed or in her closet.  We thought a fun night light would do the trick but it didn’t.  Don’t get me wrong, it helped!  We’ve even let her sleep with a flashlight.

We decided to help our little bundle of fears with a pretend Monster “Go Away” Spray.  We filled it with light calming essential oils to help her rest.  We told her that this spray is a Monster repellent which means that monsters do not like the smell and they will not come close.  It works!  I ended up catching her carrying it with her to the bathroom one night.  Oh my goodness it was so cute but she was so brave when she had it.  Hey, when you are a parent you will do almost whatever it takes to make your child feel safe and secure even if it means laying with them every single night until they go to sleep.

Here’s the best part, I made a spray that was mainly distilled water with a little bit of lavender essential oil.  I used about 10 drops for a 2 oz plastic spray bottle.  I made sure it was small enough that her little hands could spray it.  I even told her that I have all the oils that monsters don’t like and when that runs out she can help me make the next batch with her favorite scents.  Lavender oil is calming but there are all kinds of calming essential oils on Amazon or even at your local health food store.

It turns out that it’s a big hit with the kiddos and their rooms smell great.

I’ve decided to include a free printable if you want to make one for yourself.  Grab the  Monster Go Away Printable Download here.  There is also a 5×7 label if you want to give it as a gift or just place it by the child’s bed.

This is a screenshot of what the printable looks like:
