Ten Ways to Make Money at Home

With the economy constantly getting worse, more people are turning to home based businesses than ever. There has been an influx of this of epic levels and some even worry that the concept is getting watered down. The good news is that home based businesses are as strong and viable as ever. You can make money at home if you are willing to do the work and put in the time.  I’ve done many of these options myself.  I did them so that I could stay home with my children and still bring in some cash while needed.

Here are ten ways to make money at home that have been proven to work:

Ebay

Ebay is not nearly as strong as it once was for the average person but it is still viable if you find a legitimate stream of regular product. Like any business, you have to have things that people are looking for. Reputation is the key and you have to start small to build that.  I’m not a big fan of the fees on Ebay but I have found Ebay to be helpful when selling rare items, Military items or even antiques.  I use Ebay to gain a bigger audience when needed.

Babysitting

It might be one of the oldest money making jobs on the list and it is traditionally for teens, but most parents will pay a premium for a respected adult. There are no shortages of people willing to pay for you to watch their children if you are proven safe and responsible.

Walk pets

Much like babysitting, pet sitting and walking is booming lately. If you love animals and are good with them, you can find enough to keep you busy. If you live in a larger city, you can literally earn a full time income.

Create a product

If you are an entrepreneur and can think outside the box, you can often find an idea, service or product of your own to sell. This is not as complicated as it sounds. You simply find something you can do well with regularity and find the people that need it.

Yard sale

A good old yard sale is still a wonderful way to make a quick income but some folks make it a business. You can set up the yard sale and make some quick money, or go to yard sales to fund your Ebay, Craigslist or Flea Market business. You would be surprised at the profits that are waiting to be made.

Become a customer service consultant from home

Customer service skills over the phone are worth money to certain businesses and you can find them if you are willing to look. If you can turn lemons into lemonade, this might be the career for you.

Start a blog/website

It still works and it is a ton of fun. Understand, however, that it takes massive amounts of work and there are no guarantees. Risk = possible reward in the blogging community.  I plan to write an detailed plan on starting your own blog so stay tuned!

Craigslist

Like Ebay, but with a larger and more personal touch, Craigslist is a fantastic way to market your goods or services to a local audience. This requires a great deal of attention to detail and a safe plan to truly make it work. This is probably my favorite way to make some quick cash with items you no longer need or want at home!  No fees!  I’ve even turned my garage sale shopping habit into a money making venture!  Check out this article that I wrote on how to make money reselling items I’ve found at Garage Sales.  It’s a 2 part series loaded with do’s and dont’s.  I even give some examples of items I’ve bought and sold with the profit margins.  I also have a quick guide to get started too.  It’s called How to Successfully Sell Items on Craigslist.  I’ve been doing this for a very long time and these are sure fire tips to make you successful!

Affiliate marketing

This was once a very explosive way to make money and it has now settled into a job where quality is everything. No longer will shortcuts get you the prize. You have to do the work and put in the time.

Party planning

This one is up and coming and it is a heck of a lot of fun. The key is to specialize in a few specific areas and then get referrals. Referrals are the lifeblood of most any home based money making opportunity.

  1. HI! Thank you so much for the article I am always looking for new ways to be able to work from home. I homeschool my children and I also get bored easily ;-} So I appreciate it! I have been working at Tried and True Ways to Work From Home for about a year now and they allow you pick and choose your jobs and hours! I want to learn more about affiliate marketing though and start my own site/blog. Do you have any more tips on that?

    1. Falesha,
Hello, what type of work do you do at Tried & True? I worked at Liveops at home, but I am currently looking for something else, like just Data Entry… 🙂 But I’m up for neW adventures too. ~ Tia (And ty Jennifer, I’m luVinG this page!!!!) 😉

  2. It’s true that affiliate marketing as a way of making money online is something that you have to put time and effort in. If you think about it though, what job is there where you don’t have to put in any time or effort and you can still get paid?

The flip side is that working from home can be very rewarding and if it is what you want to do then there are some great ways to get started.
